I have wanted to call this blog "j'essaie" as a tribute to Michel De Montaigne who might be regarded as the first and possibly best blogger of them all!
Montaigne wrote about the France that he lived in. he reflected on the huge issues of his day as well as the small issues of his life.
I have come upon his great writings rather late in life but was very much impressed by his wisdom and the bravery that he showed in standing up for his opinions in a time that was much less open to criticism than ours.
I am hoping to emulate his approach and write about everything and anything that comes to mind. That is why I have decided to name this blog "Of Choice and Chance" We live in interesting times here in the U.K. I hope to reflect on our divisions, our attitudes as well as being able to reflect on my own personal interests. In this respect, I will be following the approach of the master but cannot hope to claim anything like the output that he managed to pen. But I will try (J'essaie in French) and that is, in the end, all one can ever be asked to do.
